Wie weet na het bizarre jaar 2020 nog dat in 2019 er protesten waren van boeren? En dat optochten van tractoren het filerecord weer wat hoger zette? Filerecords zijn er in 2020 niet gesneuveld, of het moet zijn dat het ontbreken van files voor een record zorgde. Geen boze boeren die de boel platlegden en het Malieveld omploegden, maar virussen en mensen die er geen vat op konden krijgen, beheersten het afgelopen jaar.
Het coronavirus zorgde er ook voor dat het PLATOS Modellencolloquium 2020 niet door kon gaan. Gelukkig is er daarna veel gebeurd aan het technisch mogelijk maken van symposia en congressen door middel van videobijeenkomsten.
Voor PLATOS 2021 willen we dat ook doen. Op woensdag 10 maart 2021 hopen we online te gaan om te praten over ons thema ‘Modellen in de actualiteit’. Die actualiteit is dus wel anders geworden, maar er wordt nog steeds hardop getwijfeld aan de waarde van de wetenschappelijke benadering: “Ik vertrouw de metingen (naar believen in te wisselen voor methoden, modellen, ….) niet, want ik ben het er niet mee eens”.
Daarom is het belangrijk verkeers- en vervoermodellen te valideren en te kalibreren aan de hand van metingen, of actueel te houden, zodat ze niet achterlopen op de ontwikkelingen. We weten het wel, maar gebeurt dit ook in voldoende mate? En hoe gaan we om met de lessen die we uit de coronacrisis kunnen leren?
Dit alles staat op het programma van de 20e editie van het PLATOS modellencolloquium.

Over recent years, we have observed new trends in building envelopes towards a more user centred design. Themes such as sustainable solutions have been widely discussed but ultimately it is the use of buildings as the primary goal of building activity. We believe that technological development and processes need to embrace the user of a building to come to new innovative solutions.
The conference addresses topics such as User Comfort, Engineering Performance, Technology and User Interfaces and finally the Design and Co-creation of Facades.
‘User Centred Facades’ aims at answering the following questions: What are the trends that determine the future of the building envelope? How can we understand the impact that facades have on user comfort and wellbeing? What technological solutions enable the best interaction of façade and user? How can the user get involved and how can we design new processes to support co-creation?
During the 13th edition of the annual conference, thirteen international speakers from research, industry, management and design will share their experience and visions of the future building envelope.
User centred façades is organised by the Architectural Façades and Products Research Group, Chair Design of Construction, TU Delft in cooperation with the European Façade Network (EFN)

SWBSS 2021 is the 5th edition of the conference series “Salt Weathering of Buildings and Stone Sculptures”, started in 2008. Previous editions were held in Copenhagen (2008), Limassol (2011), Brussel (2014) and Potsdam (2017).
SWBSS2021 will be held at the Delft University of Technology (Delft, The Netherlands) on 22 – 24 September 2021.
The conference aims to bring together conservators, restorers, engineers, architects, academics, students and experienced researchers and to contribute thereby to the promotion of research and development within the field of salt weathering of porous materials.
